Help SJI With Operating Expenses
We can’t do this work without generous donations and commitment from others. The strength of our organization and the success of our teachers depends on the strength of our operations.
The Challenge
In 2020 New York State had 76, 008 adults under community supervision. Outside of New York City, Suffolk County had 6,435 adults under supervision with Nassau County coming in second with 4, 650 adults.
Our Findings
Following what has proven to drastically decrease re-incarceration rates, programs such as Bard
Prison Initiative and Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison where they report a recidivism rate of between 2% and 4%, SJI is addressing, at the local level, educational needs earlier in the criminal justice system process with two objectives
1) decrease recidivism and court involvement
2) end long-term prison sentences
